Ohio has lifted its health orders and COVID-19 restrictions. Find out what that means for you and your staff.
Restrictions and Health Orders
On June 2, DODD issued guidance regarding the expiration of the Ohio Department of Health’s orders related to the COVID-19 pandemic. With the expiration of the ODH orders, all previous restrictions in place across day services, transportation and residential waiver services are no longer in place.
In DODD’s communication, they identify that providers should consult CDC guidance when developing internal procedures for how to provide services moving forward that mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Providers can continue to implement the guidelines that were part of the previous health orders, if they choose, but it is not required. There are no longer any mandates relative to social distancing or group sizes within day centers.
Regarding PPE use requirements for staff, DODD linked to recommendations for healthcare workers Infection Prevention and Control Recommendations for Healthcare Personnel guidance. They strongly recommend staff wear face coverings when providing services to people served, which Summit DD believes is a best practice. However, this is not a mandate or something that will be enforced by DODD. Ultimately, it is up to agencies to decide how to move forward with requiring staff or person served to wear masks.
Specific to congregate and other residential services, Summit DD believes best practice is to work with individuals and families to determine if staff should wear masks while providing services in someone’s home. It is the right of people served to continue to request staff wear masks while being supported in their homes.
Best Practices for Transportation Providers
DODD also provided a link to guidance issued by OPTA (Ohio Public Transportation Authority) which outlines best practices that transportation providers can implement. Ohio Public Transit Association COVID 19 Guidance for Ohio Public Transit and Human Service Transportation Agencies
