According to the Center for Disease Control, approximately 1 in 68 children are diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder, making it the fastest growing developmental disability in the United States.
Students in this class will discuss the common characteristics of types of autism found under the diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) including how ASD is diagnosed and its prevalence. The specific challenges common to people who experience ASD will be discussed in detail with a focus on how a direct support professional might provide effective supports to a person with ASD.
