Summit County is seeing an increase in the number of Neglect MUIs this year. Summit DD’s MUI team is offering a free training for Providers to address the causes and help curb this emerging trend.
As of August, Summit DD has investigated 99 total Neglect MUIs this year in Summit County.
- 54 of these Neglects related to someone not providing the supervision supports for a person served and
- 45 of these Neglects related to a responsible party not providing other supports and care required for a person served.
Causes:
The primary causes of Supervision Neglects from providers have been staff sleeping, abandoning their shift, or otherwise not following supervision needs for those served.
The primary causes of Treatment Neglects from providers have been medication errors & not following medical plans.
Addressing the issue:
To help combat this trend, Summit DD’s MUI Team will be offering a free training to all providers on 10/27/23* at 10am to address Neglect identification and prevention. There are options to attend in person or virtually. The training lasts approx. 1 hour.
The training is titled: MUI Neglect – What it is, why it happens and how to prevent it.

This hybrid training will be offered both in-person at Summit DD’s Cuyahoga Falls location or virtually via Zoom.
