This position is responsible to provide husbandry, training, and enrichment; as well as providing public programing to a variety of audiences on zoo grounds with the bulk of the programing occurring during the spring and summer season. Successful candidates must be comfortable speaking to audiences of all ages. Requirements: minimum of six months of animal care experience at an AZA facility and a four-year degree is preferred. A minimum of three years of progressive work experience is strongly preferred as well as prior show/educational experience.
Building & GroundsAkron7/8/24Alexis Loweralower@summitdd.org Temporary FT, 40 hrs./wk. available weekends, holidays, and for a flexible schedule.$12/hr.Assigned to the Ectotherm unit and will require working and progressive knowledge of entomology and herpetology. Aquatic experience is preferred but not required. This position will also include working with large colonies of animals such as naked mole rats, and frugivorous microbats. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a mature attitude, as well as a strong conservation ethic and exceptional interpersonal skills in order to provide high standards of care for assigned areas. Ability to perform physical work (which includes but is not limited to climbing and walking on uneven terrain; entering and wading into pools; climbing hills, stairs and ladders; wearing PPE; lifting up to 50 lbs.; and working outside in all weather conditions, etc.). Requirements: A four-year degree is strongly preferred; a minimum of an Associate’s degree or equivalent is required.

This role will assist in required routine cleaning and trash pickup. This position will be responsible for assisting in snow mitigation as needed. Maintain a clean and presentable park. Event Assistance: Transports and set up/teardown of event infrastructure, i.e., tables, chairs, tents, etc. With the aid of a variety of gas, diesel, and electric vehicles, ranging from golf carts, UTVs, and skid steer type equipment. Trained to handle and respond to bio-hazard spills in the park. Plows or shovels snow and applies de-icing to pathways or building entrances. May use snowplows, snow throwers and salt spreaders. Additional duties as assigned. Must have a valid Ohio Driver License. 18 or over to apply.
